RNGD’s Chief Legal Officer earns her third consecutive Leadership in Law recognition — and the program’s highest distinction

New Orleans CityBusiness has named RNGD Chief Legal Officer Erika K. Bush, Esq. to its 2026 Leadership in Law class, her third consecutive year among the honorees. This year she also receives the program’s Hall of Fame distinction as its sole recipient — an honor reserved for legal professionals whose influence has shaped their industry and their community over the long term.

Bush is recognized in the in-house counsel category alongside a 2026 class spanning the bench, the academy, and firms across the region. Honorees will be celebrated Monday, October 5, from 4–6 p.m. at the New Orleans Museum of Art, with the presentation beginning at 5 p.m. Profiles of the class will appear in the October 15 issue of CityBusiness in print and online.

What the Hall of Fame Recognizes

A single-year award recognizes a good year. The Hall of Fame recognizes a body of work — and Bush’s began in 2019, when she joined RNGD as the company’s first in-house legal professional.

What started as a department of one is now a 14-person risk management team with responsibility well beyond contracts and claims: insurance, safety, wellness and benefits, prequalification, incident management, litigation, and human resources. Few attorneys in construction hold that breadth of scope, and fewer still have built it from scratch.

Reflecting on the recognition, Bush has described the work this way:

“This recognition is humbling. When I first won, I was shocked — I had never really considered myself in the running for an award like this. There aren’t a lot of lawyers who tackle insurance, safety, wellness and benefits, prequalification, incident management, lawsuits, and human resources all together. It forces me to apply not only my legal training but my business acumen, which I’ve continued to develop here. And it’s not just about checking a box. We truly want you to go home safe to your family and loved ones every night, and to be armed with the tools and resources to make that happen. S.A.F.E. has become the culture here.”

The Work Behind the Recognition

Safety, restructured. When Bush arrived, safety managers reported to individual project superintendents, leaving no consistent practice across the business. She made the case for integrating safety with risk — recognizing how directly it connects to workers’ compensation, general liability, schedule delays, and quality control — and rebuilt the function around it. The results show up in RNGD’s EMR of .64 [confirm current figure] and multiple ABC awards, and in programs like S.A.F.E. Day, the Wellness Fair, safety dashboards, and the Safety + Health Newsletter.

Growth, supported. As a member of RNGD’s Executive Management team, Bush has been central to the company’s expansion into Nashville and Huntsville — work that goes well past licensing and compliance into leasing, tax incentive programs, and the practical reality that business culture varies as much by market as the law does.

People, developed. Bush created RNGD’s Legal and Safety Internship Program and an annual Risk Management lecture series, both built on a simple premise: employees have far more influence over legal and safety outcomes than they realize, and they should be equipped on the front end rather than called in after the fact.

Beyond RNGD

Bush’s philanthropic work runs through her own organization, Every Friend Needs Love, which focuses on immediate, practical support for families in crisis, and through the Palmisano Foundation. Her scholarship work deliberately reaches students who fall outside traditional academic criteria, with particular attention to trade school pathways and the range of careers available in construction beyond the field.

She continues to speak on in-house counsel and risk topics, including at the Blueprint Conference alongside outside counsel Chris LeMieux of Riess LeMieux, and at university programs across the region.

From All of Us

Three consecutive years of recognition and a Hall of Fame honor say something about Erika. That she built the function that earned it while making room for the people around her says more.

Congratulations, Erika — from everyone at RNGD.
