Overview

Building the Infrastructure Behind the Future of Energy

Innovation requires more than ideas. It requires the physical infrastructure that allows emerging technologies to be built, tested, and deployed at scale.

RNGD is constructing Newlab New Orleans, a purpose-built innovation hub located within the redevelopment of the former Naval Support Activity campus along the Mississippi River. Designed to support startups and industry partners working in energy, maritime, and industrial technologies, the facility will serve as a center for research, prototyping, and commercialization across Louisiana’s growing innovation economy.

The project represents a significant investment in the future of the Gulf South, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry leaders to collaborate in a facility built specifically for advanced technology development.

Transforming a Historic Site

Construction is helping bring new life to a long-dormant riverfront property while supporting a broader vision for housing, economic development, and innovation.

As work progresses, the project team is coordinating multiple scopes to deliver a highly specialized facility capable of supporting fabrication, testing, and demonstration activities. The building is being designed to accommodate the technical requirements associated with emerging industries while maintaining flexibility for future growth.

Delivering that vision requires close collaboration between project stakeholders, designers, and trade partners to ensure the facility can support the evolving needs of future occupants.

Supporting Louisiana’s Next Chapter

The Newlab facility is positioned to become a catalyst for innovation throughout the region.

Once complete, the development will provide startups and industry partners with access to dedicated research and development space, helping accelerate the advancement of technologies tied to energy, infrastructure, maritime operations, and industrial decarbonization.

As part of the larger transformation of the former Naval Support Activity campus, the project will contribute to job creation, economic growth, and the continued reactivation of one of New Orleans’ most significant redevelopment sites.
