Restoring a Landmark at the Center of Gainesboro

The former Shamrock Hotel has anchored Gainesboro’s town square since 1928. Now RNGD is restoring the historic building as the Cordell Hotel, a boutique hospitality destination named for Cordell Hull and rooted in the character of Tennessee’s Upper Cumberland region.

RNGD is serving as general contractor for Wasioto Restoration Company, working with Joseph & Joseph Architects and the project’s engineering partners. Construction began in May 2026 and is actively transforming the two-story landmark through structural repairs, new building systems, exterior restoration, guest-room construction, and renewed public spaces.

The project is designed to reconnect the hotel to the life of the square. Restored rooms, a reimagined lobby, bar and gathering areas, and a speakeasy-style space will support a guest experience tied to local history and outdoor recreation. For Gainesboro, the building’s return is part of a larger effort to bring investment, hospitality, and activity back to the downtown core.
